The annual update on global carbon emissions and carbon sinks is being released by The Global Carbon Project. The report compares global carbon emissions for 2019 to previous years and examines worldwide coal/gas/oil use, other sources of carbon (e.g. deforestation/fires), the relationship between emissions and economic growth, and whether policies to drive down carbon emissions are actually working.
The Global Carbon Budget 2019 is being published in Earth System Science Data with an accompanying commentary in Nature Climate Change. Come to the SMC to hear from three of the report’s authors.
Speakers included:
Prof Corinne Le Quéré FRS, Professor of Climate Change Science at the University of East Anglia
Prof Pierre Friedlingstein, Chair in Mathematical Modelling of Climate Systems at the University of Exeter
Dr Glen Peters, Research Director at the Center for International Climate Research in Oslo (CICERO)
