scientists comment on HPA announcement regarding health effects of Wi-Fi

In a statement, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced a programme of research into the potential health effects of wi-fi networks.

Prof Tony Barker, Consultant Clinical Scientist, Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, said:

“W-Fi systems are increasingly popular as a method of wireless communication to computers or the internet. The transmitters contained in e.g. a laptop computer are in general of lower power than mobile phone handsets. Whilst there is no reason to think there are any health implications from Wi-Fi fields, it is true that little is known about their location and strength. Hence it is very sensible to do measurements just to quantify these matters.”
