The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and British Geological Survey (BGS) will announce plans for a multi-million-pound geological research facility to be built in Cheshire.
This is the second of two sites proposed for the UK. The one already announced for Glasgow will research geothermal energy; the Cheshire site will focus on energy research to include shale gas, carbon storage and energy storage. The sites will generate publicly-available data about the geology and the movement of fluids and gases below the surface, which will allow better decisions to be taken about suitability and safety of different kinds of energy production and storage.
Speakers:
Prof. Mike Stephenson, Director of Science, BGS
Prof. Tim Wheeler, Director of Science, NERC
Prof. Zoe Shipton, Professor of Geological Engineering at the University of Strathclyde
