The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) have updated their recommendations on additional booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
Prof Jonathan Ball, Professor of Molecular Virology, University of Nottingham, said:
“We know that protection from infection – particularly infection caused by recently emerged variants like Omicron – is limited, but we do know that a boost does increase protection from serious disease. Therefore, focussing boosters on those who are most likely to suffer from serious CODIV-19, for example older people and those with other known vulnerabilities like diabetes, makes perfect sense.”
