cardiovascular effects of switching from tobacco cigarettes to electronic cigarettes

A new prospective clinical trial, funded by the British Heart Foundation and carried out by researchers at the University of Dundee, has examined the effects on cardiovascular health of switching from smoking to vaping.  The Vascular Effects of Regular Cigarettes Versus Electronic Cigarette Use (VESUVIUS) trial looked at adult smokers in the UK who had smoked at least 15 cigarettes a day for 2 years and measured the effects cardiovascular switching to vaping had on them within a month.  It is the largest clinical trial to-date looking at the vascular impacts of switching from tobacco to electronic cigarettes and will be published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Journalists came to the SMC to hear from two of the scientists behind the study along with a senior scientist from the funding body.
