the state of Britain’s wild pollinating insects

New research from NERC’s Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) assesses the state of Britain’s main wild pollinator species. 

The authors measured the presence of 353 wild bee and hoverfly species across the country, from 1980 to 2013. It showed one third of species experienced declines in terms of areas in which they were found, while one tenth increased.

The study will be published in Nature Communications.

The authors were invited to the SMC to discuss their findings, the likely reasons behind the trends and why it matters.
