eliminating treatment-resistant depression

Whilst debate rages about treatments for depression, there is a large proportion of people for whom no treatments work at all. The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) has a number of researchers at the forefront of efforts to understand treatment-resistant depression and develop new treatments.

We invited speakers to the SMC to discuss issues such as:

• How common is treatment-resistant depression?
• Can we predict whose depression will be resistant, or which treatments they are most likely to respond to?
• How does someone’s life experience impact whether they have treatment-resistant depression?
• What alternatives to standard anti-depressants are in the pipeline?
• How strong is the evidence for treatments using recreational drugs like ketamine and psilocybin?
• Will newer treatments in development also be options for people with treatable depression?
