In a draft of the European Food Safety Authority’s re-evaluation of the safety of the artificial sweetener aspartame, the panel of experts concluded that aspartame poses “no toxicity concern for consumers at current levels of exposure”.
Prof Alan Boobis, Professor of Biochemical Pharmacology, Imperial College London, said:
“The draft opinion on aspartame from EFSA provides reassurance that current exposure to aspartame is not a cause for concern. The conclusions are based on a substantial body of work and are consistent with those of previous risk assessments by other organisations.”
